Since March 2020, the global pandemic Covid-19 has been a part of our everyday life. However, with thousands of new cases every day in India, it remains as imperative as ever to be watchful and learn how to guard yourself and others.

Covid-19 is a contagious disease which means it can be transmitted from one person to another. For the prevention of this transmission, there are many safety measures that all of us must consider. Here are some of them:

1. Maintain social distancing

It is tough to spot who is infected and who is not; thus, maintain at least a 1-meter distance from everyone around you. If somebody next to you is sneezing or coughing, it is good to cover your eyes and mouth and keep a distance of at least 1 meter.

2. Keep yourself aware and updated

You must stay aware of Covid-19 updates in your neighbourhood. Make sure you do not visit the areas which are having confirmed Covid-19 cases. Collect relevant details via reliable sources such as WHO (World Health Organization) rather than watching videos and reading news shared on WhatsApp about the safety measures that have been set up.

3. Travel safely

Try to avoid public transport as much as you can because it is very crowded. You must carry tissues or wipes with you to cover your mouth while you sneeze or cough. Throw the used tissues in the trash rather than throwing them out of the windows.

If you are experiencing the signs of Covid-19 disease, then try not to travel at all. Avoid touching your mouth, nose, and eyes when you are outside. Always wear a mask, and avoid touching the mask with your hands once you have worn it. Learn more about what is the correct way of wearing a mask.

4. Consider foot safety

Buy separate cutting boards for meat and vegetables and wash them every day with a good soap. You must wash your hands after handling raw food and before eating cooked food. Avoid eating in restaurants or cafes’ that are unhygienic or do not follow proper hygienic practices. Eat only those meat products that have been thoroughly cooked as the heat slays the viruses that might be there.

5. Wash your hands often

It is the best way to keep yourself and others from the Covid-19 pandemic. You must wash your hands after sneezing, coughing, or coming in close contact with somebody who shows the signs. Get a good handwash or soap and stay safe.

6. Always carry a sanitizer

Sanitizers are also one of the best products for keeping you germ-free. They can help in cleaning your hands when you are outside. Also, they do not make your hands wet. Look for a sanitizer that has about 60 to 95 percent alcohol.

7. Disinfect your house

You need to clean your towels, cushions, and bedsheets. Try to clean your doorknobs, toilets, phones, tablets, bathroom fixtures, etc., regularly. Hence, it is an excellent way to keep the house disinfected.
